The painting is a pumpkin field at the Richmond Sunflower Festival, a celebration of flowers annually in Richmond, B.C. A pumpkin patch is captured from a distinct cross-sectional angle to achieve depth in the scene and enhance the actual size and colour of the subject to entice the viewer. Curves have been added to the grass, engendering a soothing calmness.

Though stationary, the enhanced motion in the scene emphasizes the life and character of the pumpkins, which seem to have been collected by choice for a collaborative meeting or party. Consequently, the elements create the illusion of purposeful movement. The bright orange pumpkins are an inevitable part of the agricultural scene, attracting viewers to join the happy gathering.

I used two layers of Gesso prior to painting and highly professional Holbein oil paint. My tools were paint brushes and finger strokes on Opus Canadian canvas.
Original Painting size: 36" x 24" inch.
